‘IN HER NAME’ EXHIBITION - WOW FESTIVAL AUSTRALIA

Celebrating the lives of Queensland’s women & girls. Women may not be highly visible in many formal positions of power, but in fact, they exercise extraordinary leadership in a myriad of ways and places throughout our State. In this exhibition, we pay tribute to women and girls from the locations where WOW (Women of the World) Festivals have taken place over the last two years - Charleville, Longreach, Cairns, Logan, and Brisbane.

Each woman featured has been identified by her community for the leadership or huge personal contribution each has made, and all have remarkable stories to tell.

"This year I have been involved with WOW Australia, a three-year program of celebration and collaboration from Queensland to build a more gender-equal world.

In April 2021, I have been commissioned to take the portraits of the most inspiring-powerful women in FNQ.

A diversity of women who are leaders, artists, mothers, "power-boss-babes" who can do it all.

I have taken their portraits and shared their stories.

Stories that touched others' hearts. Stories that are empowering future generations. Stories that can make a little difference in our society. Stories that give women a chance to speak up and not be afraid. Real stories from real experiences, from real women.

Equality is still something that we are fighting for and needs to be taken seriously. As women, as human beings.

These are the photos from the exhibition opening night and some of my favorite photos of the amazing women representing Cairns, such a great pleasure meeting them all. The exhibition opening night I was lucky to be invited to was at the Powerhouse in Brisbane. Alongside amazing photographers Tatenda, Katrina, and Mala and exhibition curator Jodi, our work was exhibited beautifully.

I was honoured to see my 10 photographs up on a wall and speak in front of a crowd about us, women.

Special thanks to photographer Katie Bennett for perfectly capturing the exhibition night. ”
